portfolio that updates itself

When Harsh came to us, he had a clear vision: a portfolio that let his work speak. No clutter, no unnecessary text, just his cinematography and reels front and center. Simple ask, but there was a catch—he needed to update it himself without calling us every time he finished a new project.

the initial conversation

First call, we laid out the basics. Harsh works fast, produces content constantly. A static website would be obsolete within a week. He'd need to upload new videos, organize projects into categories, maybe pull something down if a client relationship changed. The standard solution? Build him a content management system with a monthly subscription and a learning curve.

We took a different approach.

understanding the actual problem

Here's what mattered: the homepage needed to load instantly. That's where most visitors land, and if a video buffers for five seconds, they're gone. But the projects page? That's where invested viewers go. People who've already decided they want to see more. They'll wait an extra second or two.

So we split the solution. For the homepage, we used Mux's free tier—fast video streaming optimized for quick loads. For the projects section where Harsh would constantly add new work, we reverse-engineered Google Drive's API.

the google drive solution

Instead of paying for video hosting or building a complicated backend, we connected his portfolio directly to a folder structure in his Google Drive. Now when Harsh finishes a project, he creates a new folder, drops in his videos and project details, and the website automatically pulls it in.

No admin panel to log into. No monthly fees. No calling us for updates.

He manages his portfolio the same way he manages his files—by organizing folders. That's it.

why this worked

The approach matched how Harsh actually works. He's already organizing projects in folders on his computer. We just made his website read from those same folders. The homepage stays fast with Mux handling the featured content, while Google Drive handles the expanding archive of his work.

Total additional cost to Harsh: zero. Total time to update his portfolio: however long it takes to drag a folder into Google Drive.

The website went live in about three weeks. Harsh has added twelve new projects since launch without contacting us once.
